Goldfinch in the Butterfly Garden

I am not much of a gardener. This is evidenced by my total harvest of two tomatoes and one gourd last year. This is my claim to fame is going to be my stunted watermelons and Indian Corn. I how must have a penchant for growing weeds, because my butterfly garden is absolutely┬ámy most productive garden project to date. It is being visited by pollinators..bees, small flying insects, and an occasional butterfly. Yesterday, an American Goldfinch in full breeding plumageDSCN2623 sat among the Cosmos “Sensations” and picked away and the head and petals. The picture is a little fuzzy as I took the picture through the sunroom window.

Visited the nesting site on the west side of Calhoun this afternoon. This guy is not in the nest.  Last siting was this past Monday evening. I cannot recall ever seeing a hawk nest in the wild.
